A man has been charged with dangerous driving causing death following an incident outside a comic convention in Melbourne, Australia, where a car mounted the pavement, resulting in one fatality and one serious injury.

MELBOURNE : A man has been charged with dangerous driving causing death after a car mounted the pavement outside a comic convention in the Australian city of Melbourne , killing one and injuring another, police said on Sunday.

Police said the car veered onto the pavement just before 5 pm on Saturday, hitting two 20-year-olds who were leaving the Supanova comic convention. One died at the scene of the accident, while the other was hospitalized with serious lower-body injuries.

The 33-year-old driver had a learner's permit but was not licensed. He continued to drive along the pavement until an off-duty police officer and a passer-by intervened and stopped the vehicle, police said. The reason for the incident remains unclear.
