A chaotic world - Oil prices end the week on a volatile note but up sharply for the week on supply worries PETALING JAYA: The chaotic conditions at Hospital Kuala Lumpur ’s emergency and trauma department , likened online to a “ war zone ”, are due to ongoing upgrading works that have halved its operating space.

Hospital Kuala Lumpur said it was aware of viral social media posts on April 29 depicting overcrowding and strained conditions at the department. It explained that the facility is currently undergoing a major upgrade aimed at expanding capacity and improving patient comfort.

“During the upgrade process, the emergency and trauma department is operating within a reduced space of about 50%, while the remaining area is being used for construction works,” the hospital said in a statement on Thursday . Despite the constraints, HKL stressed that services are continuing as usual, with patient care delivered according to standard operating procedures under a “no wrong door” policy.

The hospital said the upgrading project is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, adding that measures are being taken to ensure operations remain smooth throughout the transition. HKL also acknowledged that some infrastructure currently appears worn or inadequate, but said this is temporary due to ongoing modification works. It added that seating for patients and accompanying family members will be increased based on the capacity of existing waiting areas to improve comfort levels.
