KUALA LUMPUR, May 23 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today congratulated the staff of Sultan Idris Shah Hospital , particularly the Heart Centre team, for their outstanding achievements in delivering high-quality healthcare services to the public. In a Facebook post today, Anwar said the hospital’s ability to manage about 60 heart patients daily, including critical cases, reflected world-class expertise, efficiency and a high level of preparedness among the country’s healthcare personnel.
“I appreciate the high commitment shown by the team who place immense value on every life, as well as the unwavering dedication of the entire Cardiology Department in ensuring patients receive the best treatment during the most critical moments. “Thank you to all doctors, nurses and staff for your service and sacrifices. Continue striving for excellence,” he said.
Yesterday, HSIS announced that the achievements of its Heart Centre were in line with the hospital’s recognition as a Centre of Excellence for Cardiology by the Ministry of Health. The recognition reflects the centre’s strong capacity and exceptional capabilities in delivering high-impact cardiac treatment to patients.
“As one of the country’s high-performance cardiac treatment centres, HSIS continues to record significant figures. Throughout 2025, the centre carried out 9,483 cardiac angiogram procedures and 6,486 Percutaneous Coronary Intervention procedures, or cardiac stent placements, reflecting the high workload and patient confidence in the services provided.
“Cardiology services at HSIS operate continuously, with elective cases handled from Monday to Friday, while emergency cases, especially acute heart attacks, are managed 24 hours a day to ensure patients receive critical treatment regardless of the time,” the hospital said in a statement. The intensive operations involve 80 healthcare personnel comprising 15 cardiologists, six medical officers, 11 radiographers, eight assistant medical officers, and 40 nurses and healthcare assistants working together to ensure every procedure is carried out smoothly. — Bernama
