CEBU, May 9 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysia and Cambodia are committed to intensifying cooperation in various sectors, including trade, halal, higher education, and strengthening regional security governance, particularly in combating cross-border crime and job scam activities.
Anwar, who is in Cebu, the Philippines, to attend the 48th Asean Summit and Related Meetings today, held a bilateral meeting with his Cambodian counterpart, Hun Manet, on the sidelines of the conference. Both leaders also expressed commitment to enhancing cooperation in higher education, halal, agriculture, and tourism sectors, he said, adding that Malaysia also welcomes more students and tourists from Cambodia to the country in line with the spirit of openness and Asean’s shared development.
“The bilateral meeting with Hun Manet this afternoon took place in the spirit of regional friendship that continues to be strengthened for the shared well-being of the people of both countries. “Malaysia values its long-standing relationship with Cambodia, including growing people-to-people ties, economic cooperation, and efforts to expand strategic networks across various fields,” he said in a Facebook post today.
In a world increasingly faced with geopolitical uncertainty and economic challenges, Anwar said Asean must continue to be strengthened as a platform for regional peace, stability, and prosperity based on mutual trust and shared interests. — Bernama
