Ink-credible work: Penang Global Tourism staff posing with the passports and stamps for the various attractions at the launch of the Discover Penang MyTQA Stamp Collection Journey in Komtar, George Town.
— ZHAFARAN NASIB/The Star GEORGE TOWN: Ten attractions in Penang now offer stamp-print activities, turning sightseeing into an interactive treasure hunt. Visitors can collect stamps in a special collectible booklet known as the “Penang Passport” which features a checklist, insights into each location and space for personal notes.
Participating attractions include The Habitat Penang Hill, Entopia, The Top Penang, Ghost Museum Penang, Edgecliff Gallery @ Penang Hill, Kampung Agong, Wonderfood Museum, D’8000 Mini Golf Cafe, Bertam Resort and Water Park and Queensbay Mall. The initiative, dubbed “Discover Penang: MyTQA Stamp Collection Journey”, was mooted by Penang Global Tourism together with the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry and Tourism Malaysia. Starting yesterday, the initiative will run until Nov 30 with booklets available at the participating attractions.
Japanese tourist Otsuka Satoshi, 42, who was seen helping his son collect his first stamp at one of the sites, said it was a fun family activity.
“We have something similar back home at train stations, temples and major attractions, but usually they provide loose sheets of paper or you have to bring your own book. “It is different here because we get a special booklet to collect the stamps, and the descriptions of each location offer useful insights.
Penang tourism and creative economy committee chairman Wong Hon Wai said visitors who purchased an admission ticket at any of the participating attractions would receive a special-edition booklet or “passport”. He said the initiative aimed to encourage exploration across multiple destinations while boosting engagement and repeat visits, adding that 10 of the 16 attractions in Penang qualified for the Malaysia Tourism Quality Assurance certification.
“MyTQA is a national initiative to enhance service standards and elevate the quality of tourism products across Malaysia. It serves as a mark of trust, assuring visitors of high-quality tourism offerings.
“Those who complete the full stamp collection will receive exclusive Visit Malaysia 2026 commemorative merchandise,” he said at the launch held at The Top Penang in Komtar yesterday. Motac Penang director Dr Annuar Mohamed said the MyTQA certification was introduced to improve tourism product quality and service standards nationwide.
He said the certification covered seven categories – culture and heritage; nature, adventure and eco-tourism; man-made attractions; sports and recreation; shopping and lifestyle; aqua and marine tourism; and meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions.
“Recognition is awarded under three tiers Platinum, Gold and Silver – based on a set of criteria and evaluation by a panel,” he added.
