Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat, Tan Sri Dr Johari Abdul, informed the Election Commission (EC) of the vacancies in Pandan and Setiawangsa parliamentary seats due to the resignations of former economy minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and former natural resources and environmental sustainability minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.
PETALING JAYA: The Election Commission has been informed of vacancies for the Pandan and Setiawangsa parliamentary seats, says Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Dr Johari Abdul.
Johari said the resignation notices from former economy minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli and former natural resources and environmental sustainability minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad took effect on Monday .
“In relation to this, I have informed the EC of the vacancies in both parliamentary seats in question, in line with Article 54 of the Federal Constitution. “Any decision relating to the holding of by-elections for the Pandan and Setiawangsa parliamentary seats is subject to the consideration and decision of the commission,” he said in a statement on Wednesday .
Both Rafizi and Nik Nazmi announced their resignations from PKR on May 17, saying they would formally take over Parti Bersama Malaysia and launch a new third-force political movement.
