Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng argues that strong banking profits should translate into support for MSMEs facing rising cost pressures and cash flow strain. He proposes RM5 billion in interest-free loans and a one-year loan moratorium to help struggling small businesses, citing concerns over liquidity pressures among firms and the worsening conditions of the manufacturing sector due to global disruptions.
The government should urgently channel RM5 billion in interest-free loans and a one-year loan moratorium to help struggling small businesses, Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng said today, arguing that strong banking profits justify broader support for MSMEs.
He also highlighted concerns over liquidity pressures among firms and the worsening conditions of the manufacturing sector due to global disruptions. The banking sector’s profits in 2025 surged by RM6.5 billion or 13.5 per cent from RM48.3 billion in 2024 to RM54.8 billion in 2025, which Lim argued should be shared more broadly with borrowers, especially MSMEs, rather than concentrated within financial institutions
