UMNO leader Datuk Rozabil Abd. Rahman has raised concerns about the actions of the Deputy Minister of Law and Institutional Reform, M. Kulasegaran, after he accompanied an activist to court. This raises questions about favoritism and the impartiality of legal proceedings. Rozabil criticized the differing treatment of activists, one handcuffed and the other not, prompting calls for transparency and accountability.

ARAU: UMNO state liaison body chairman, Datuk Rozabil Abd. Rahman has questioned the actions and purpose of the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform), M. Kulasegaran , in accompanying activist, Arumugam Dorasamy to court. Rozabil questioned whether the presence of a Deputy Minister managing a law-related portfolio could be interpreted as showing favoritism towards the accused.

He stated that the country practices the separation of powers between the Cabinet, legislature, and judiciary, and therefore, this separation of powers must be clearly and firmly implemented. “It is necessary so that justice is not easily compromised. Shouldn't all parties practice the concept of ‘without fear or favour’ towards any accused,” he said here today. Earlier, Arun, 56, accompanied by Kulasegaran and his legal team, arrived in court to face charges under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code related to a video on the WhatsApp application. \Meanwhile, Rozabil, who is also the UMNO Arau Division Chief, also questioned the situation where Arun arrived in court in a free state and without handcuffs, while another activist, Zamri Vinoth, arrived at the Kuala Lumpur Magistrates Court in handcuffs and under tight control. “One accused is handcuffed while the other is not. Why is that, is it because one of them was accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Law, so the treatment towards the accused is different? “As a democratic country that has laws, it should be fair to all, not biased according to who. “When justice is selective, trust in the law begins to crumble. When the law becomes selective, that is no longer justice. There is no room for double standards in a society that values harmony between races and religions. “I hope this matter is viewed seriously and the authorities should come forward to explain why this happened,” he said. This situation raises serious questions about the impartiality of legal proceedings and the potential for perceived bias. The varying treatment of the two activists, one being handcuffed and the other not, further fuels these concerns. The presence of a high-ranking government official, such as a Deputy Minister of Law, accompanying an accused individual, adds another layer of complexity to the situation. It suggests a potential blurring of lines between the executive and judicial branches, which could undermine public confidence in the fairness and integrity of the legal system. The differing treatment of the two activists, one being handcuffed and the other not, raises questions about potential bias or favoritism within the legal process. The public's perception of justice can be significantly impacted by such inconsistencies.\The UMNO leader’s concerns highlight the importance of maintaining the separation of powers and ensuring equal treatment under the law. Rozabil's remarks underscore the need for transparency and accountability within the legal system. The contrasting situations of the two activists highlight the potential for perceptions of bias. This scrutiny and questioning are essential for maintaining public trust in the legal system. The authorities' response to these concerns will be critical in shaping public perception and ensuring that justice is perceived as being applied fairly and consistently for all individuals, regardless of their background or association. It is important to emphasize the principle of equal treatment under the law and the need for all parties to adhere to the principles of justice and impartiality. This matter warrants a thorough investigation to ensure the integrity of the legal process and to maintain public confidence in the judicial system. It is crucial to uphold the principles of fairness, transparency, and the rule of law to ensure justice for all. The focus should be on upholding the principles of justice and impartiality to ensure that all individuals are treated equally under the law
