Hamidan, who previously worked as a public driver at Kem 504 Askar Wataniah, Chuping, has repeatedly undertaken the Mathematics examination, driven by a desire to challenge his cognitive abilities, particularly in solving complex formulas. His journey to the examination hall in Kangar, Perlis was marked by a temporary change of venue due to unforeseen circumstances; he had originally registered at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tengku Fauziah but was compelled to relocate to SMK Syed Sirajuddin because of a flood-induced road closure. He attributed his participation to a combination of genuine interest in the subjects, the desire to assess his mental capabilities, and a personal challenge to himself, despite his advanced age. He had retired from government service in December 2025 and is now planning to sit for Mathematics, Science, and Geography examinations again this year.
