Hamidan Yahya, a 61-year-old, showcases the power of lifelong learning by achieving commendable SPM results, demonstrating his enduring intellect and determination, despite facing personal challenges.

Hamidan Yahya, 61, a remarkable individual, demonstrated his commitment to lifelong learning by sitting for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia ( SPM ) examination as a private candidate for the fourth consecutive year. The former government retiree achieved commendable results in the 2025 SPM , securing a B grade in Mathematics and a C+ in Science. This accomplishment serves as a testament to his sharp intellect and unwavering determination.

Hamidan, who previously worked as a public driver at Kem 504 Askar Wataniah, Chuping, has repeatedly undertaken the Mathematics examination, driven by a desire to challenge his cognitive abilities, particularly in solving complex formulas. His journey to the examination hall in Kangar, Perlis was marked by a temporary change of venue due to unforeseen circumstances; he had originally registered at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tengku Fauziah but was compelled to relocate to SMK Syed Sirajuddin because of a flood-induced road closure. He attributed his participation to a combination of genuine interest in the subjects, the desire to assess his mental capabilities, and a personal challenge to himself, despite his advanced age. Growing up as an orphan from the age of fourteen, Hamidan faced numerous hardships, including financial constraints that frequently interrupted his schooling, which led him to work and struggle to make ends meet. \The significance of his achievements extends beyond academic success; it also holds profound meaning for the father of five and grandfather of three. He experienced a motorcycle accident just three days before the examination. He explained that he had initially anticipated receiving a lower grade due to the pain he endured while answering the questions. The B grade in Mathematics was a pleasant surprise and a source of immense satisfaction. He had retired from government service in December 2025 and is now planning to sit for Mathematics, Science, and Geography examinations again this year. Hamidan’s persistent commitment to education is particularly inspiring. His prior performances in the SPM have been noteworthy as well, with an A grade in Mathematics in 2022, a B+ in Science in 2023, and a C in Mathematics in 2024. His continuous pursuit of knowledge and his resilience in the face of adversity stand as a powerful example for people of all ages.\His story is an inspiration, illustrating the enduring power of the human spirit and the value of perseverance. Hamidan's experience highlights the importance of lifelong learning and the ability to overcome obstacles. His dedication to education serves as a reminder that age is not a barrier to achieving personal goals and that the pursuit of knowledge can bring great fulfillment. His determination also emphasizes the importance of a positive mindset and the ability to adapt to challenges, and his ability to study despite personal difficulties is also an inspiration.
