Khafiz Bachok, a Malaysian climber, became the first Malaysian to climb to the summit of Mount Everest in the 2026 Blossom Season, joining a team from Mongolia and Nepal. He reached the peak with the help of experienced sherpas at 2.25 AM. Other climbers from Australia and Nepal also successfully summited during the same time, facing extreme weather conditions. Seorang anak tempatan telah berjaya sampai ke puncak Gunung Everest hari ini, 18 Mei 2026 dalam Ekspedisi Musim Bunga 2026di Facebook, Pendaki Malaysia, Mohd Khafiz Bachok, 47, turut dikenali sebagai Kicok antara yang berjaya tiba di puncak setinggi 8,848 meter itu.
Difahamkan, beliau telah tiba di puncak pada jam 2.25 pagi bersama pendaki dari Mongolia dan Nepal dengan bantuan sherpa berpengalaman. Beberapa lagi pendaki dari Australia dan Nepal pula dilaporkan tiba di puncak pada jam 2.35 pagi, selepas masing-masing melakukan pendakian akhir yang dirancang rapi dalam keadaan cuaca ekstrim. Semua pendaki bersama pasukan sherpa kini sedang turun semula ke Base Camp, dengan syarikat itu menegaskan kejayaan tiba di puncak hanyalah 'separuh daripada perjalanan'.
Menurut Altipro Adventures, pendakian itu yang juga musim pertama mereka ke Everest adalah hasil persiapan berbulan-bulan membabitkan proses penyesuaian altitud, perancangan laluan serta kerjasama pasukan di banjaran Himalaya. Pasukan terbabit dikatakan telah menunjukkan 'ketahanan luar biasa, kekuatan dan semangat ekspedisi' dalam usaha menawan puncak gunung tertinggi dunia berkenaan.
