Pertubuhan Pribumi Perkasa Malaysia (Perkasa) has urged the cancellation of the upcoming Water Festival 2026, citing concerns over national dignity, societal values, and the welfare of the people. The organization argues that the event is inappropriate given the current economic challenges faced by citizens and contradicts Malaysian cultural norms. Perkasa also warns of potential disruptions to traffic, pollution, and negative impacts on local businesses, calling on the government to prioritize public welfare over entertainment.
PETALING JAYA: Pertubuhan Pribumi Perkasa Malaysia ( Perkasa ) has called for the immediate cancellation of the Water Festival 2026 , scheduled to take place over three days from April 30 to May 2 in the tourist hotspot of Bukit Bintang.
Acting President Borhan Ahmad Zakaria stated that the event raises issues of national dignity, societal decorum, and the neglect of public priorities. He questioned the timing of the festival, given that citizens are still grappling with the rising cost of living and other fundamental issues such as water supply shortages and traffic congestion. According to Borhan, while the public struggles with daily life, organizing a carnival like this is seen as a waste of water, money, and time.
He criticized the concept of a water festival involving unrestricted mingling between men and women in public, arguing that it contradicts Eastern values and Malaysian societal norms. Malaysia is not a place for immoral festivities, he asserted, and such events only create space for unethical behavior that does not reflect the true identity of the nation’s people. Borhan also highlighted the potential negative impacts of the event, including traffic disruptions, pollution, and adverse effects on small businesses and local residents.
Therefore, he demanded the immediate cancellation of the Water Festival 2026 and urged the government to prioritize the welfare of the people over entertainment events. Perkasa does not oppose healthy and constructive entertainment, but it strongly rejects events that disregard religious sensitivities, imitate foreign cultures, and conflict with local customs and traditions
