The Jacob Zuma Foundation has confirmed that former President Jacob Zuma has made submissions to the Correctional Services Commissioner on whether he should return to jail.

Former President Zuma addressing supporters.former President Jacob Zuma has made submissions to the Correctional Services Commissioner on whether he should return to jail.

This comes after the Constitutional Court recently dismissed Correctional Services’ application for leave to appeal against the decision of the SCA on former President Jacob Zuma’s medical parole stating that it bears “no reasonable prospects of success”. The dismissal raised questions on whether the former President’s time spent on medical parole would count towards his 15-month sentence.

The Foundation says that last Wednesday, Zuma was required to make the submission within a 48-hour deadline, effectively to confirm the decision of the Commissioner, which was announced on 7 October 2022 that he has served out the full term of his incarceration.

The statement of the Commissioner was very clear that former President Zuma was under the Correctional Services control from the 8th of July 2021 to the 7th of October 2022 as ordered by the Constitutional Court.”
