Jacob Zuma set to appear for his private prosecution bid against President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Zuma accuses his successor of being an “accessory after the fact” for allegedly failing to act against Prosecutor Advocate Billy Downer and journalist Karyn Maughan. He alleges that they disclosed his medical details in violation of the National Prosecuting Authority Act .
In his appearance today, the former president will seek to keep his private prosecution case on the roll as part of his ongoing legal efforts to prosecute Ramaphosa privately. In 2023, Ramaphosa successfully applied to the court to review and set aside Zuma’s private prosecution bid. Zuma then sought to appeal this decision before the full bench of the High Court but lost.
Undeterred, Zuma petitioned the Supreme Court of Appeal, but the appellant court dismissed his appeal. He has since requested the Appeals Court to reconsider its decision. The Jacob Zuma Foundation stated that its patron will provide an update on the progress of his legal efforts when he appears before the High Court as a private prosecutor.
