Zoë Kravitz clarified her comments about being turned away from auditioning for “The Dark Knight Rises” based on the color of her skin.

During that interview, Zoë noted the role in question was a small part, and further recounted her experience. “They told me that I couldn’t get an audition for a small role they were casting because they weren’t ‘going urban,’” the actor said at the time. “It was like, ‘What does that have to do with anything?’ I have to play the role like, ‘Yo, what’s up, Batman? What’s going on wit chu?’”

“I wanted to AUDITION for a small part in the film and was told that they were not going ‘urban' on the part,” Zoë continued. "This is something I heard a lot 20 years ago—it was a very different time." She also opened up about growing up as a biracial woman and learning to fully accept her identity in the interview. “I was uncomfortable with my Blackness [growing up],” the actor admitted. “It took me a long time to not only accept it but to love it and want to scream it from the rooftops.”
