Zii Jia captured the Arctic Open title after beating fellow Malaysian Ng Tze Yong 21-14, 21-15 in the final at the Energia Arena in Vantaa, Finland, yesterday.World No. 14 Zii Jia put national player and world No. 19 Tze Yong to the sword from the beginning with his powerful smashes and neat net play.With the win, Zii Jia proved that he was still the top men’s singles player in the country at the moment despite struggling for consistency throughout the year.
“I’m quite happy to get this win today ,” said Zii Jia in a post-match interview with the Badminton World Federation .“I want to thank my family members and team for supporting me when I was struggling.Zii Jia also believed that the 23-year-old Tze Yong’s steady progress bodes well for men’s singles in the country.
“I’m quite sad that I could not raise my own game. Moving forward, I believe I need to improve my stamina to be able to play well in every match.”
