SINGAPORE: A 19-year-old who was in a motorcycle chase that killed a Land Transport Authority (LTA) officer has been sentenced to two years and three months’ jail, and six strokes of the cane.
KUALA LUMPUR: The parents of Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matin have applied to be immediately acquitted of a charge of neglecting him at the Shah Alam High Court , Malay language dailyZaim Ikhwan Zahari and his wife, Ismanira Abdul Manaf, both 30, as the applicants, made the request in a notice of motion filed through a legal firm , naming the prosecution as the respondents.
"Therefore, both accused as applicants have been seriously prejudiced, thus making the criminal charge an abuse of the court process," said a document obtained by Sinar Harian at the court on Thursday . "Following that, we did not know how to defend ourselves, causing us to fail to prepare a defence," it said in the supporting affidavit obtained from the defence.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Raja Zaizul Faridah Raja Zaharudin confirmed that he had received the application from the defense."The application was submitted two days ago, so it will not be heard in the near future.After hearing the application, Judge Dr Syahlizah Warnoh set Jan 28 for case management on the status of the notice application.
