The man accused of setting the Parliament buildings on fire in Cape Town in 2022 has rejected two reports that recommend that he is unfit to stand trial, and he plans to testify in November.
An inquiry about Zandile Mafe’s understanding of the wrongfulness of his actions will be held after he rejected two reports that determined that he is unfit to stand trials on charges of arson and terrorism.
The reports were conducted by three state-appointed specialists, as well as an independent report that Mafe requested. According to the findings, Mafe did not understand the wrongfulness of his actions and was unfit to stand trial. However, these findings have not been confirmed as a finding by the court yet.
