Zahid membuat pengumuman itu pada satu majlis Hari Raya di Sungai Sumun di Perak, bersempena 1 tahun beliau dipilih sebagai presiden Umno. Beliau mengingatkan khalayak bahawa beliau dipilih, bukannya dilantik, sebagai presiden Umno setahun lepas.“Ini satu tahun yang cukup signifikan. Dengan ini saya umumkan saya kembali dari cuti.

“Saya tak sanggup lihat rakyat terus ditipu dan dihina,” katanya dengan menamatkan ucapan beliau dengan teriakan slogan Hidup Umno.
