A reader points out the Supreme Court justices are not elected officials, and therefore do not have to consider popular opinion.Re: “Honor law, not own beliefs,” Your Turn, June 29:

Robert Wise’s letter laments that “people who are sworn to uphold the laws … are making decisions based on their beliefs of which laws to enforce,” complaining that some district attorneys will not be enforcing Texas’ abortion bans. Let’s not forget that district attorney is an elected position and vigorously enforcing an unpopular law is a sure way to get voted out. Unfortunately, the people have no such redress when it comes to the nine unelected judges of the Supreme Court.I am a decades-long supporter of a woman’s right to choose her reproductive care .

The recent Supreme Court decision appalls and disgusts me in its cruelty and misogyny. But aside from the horrible effects on women, men should be aware that now they will be burdened with child support expenses for the 18 years that unplanned-for child grows up. Are you ready to have your wages garnished?

This November, vote out anti-choice legislators, and state and federal officials who support and enact these anti-choice laws and regulations.I viewed with interest Mike Smith’s political cartoon on the June 29 editorial page of the Express-News. In it he touches — very likely inadvertently — on one of the many reasons the Second Amendment exists. Specifically, to counter a tyrannical government bent on stripping us of our basic human rights.
