Jess Ziu only returned from her first major injury setback last November
Ziu's club West Ham confirmed the news in a statement yesterday, that the 22-year-old is facing another lengthy absence from the game after suffering the injury in a behind closed doors pre-season friendly on Thursday.
The ex-Shels star only returned from her first ACL injury last November - she had been out of action for over a year, having suffered the first injury in October 2022, and thus missed out on Ireland's first ever World Cup finals appearance in Australia in the summer of 2023.READ MORE: Derry City boss Ruaidhri Higgins delivers title assessment after claiming top spot
On her return, Ireland boss Eileen Gleeson restored her to the national squad and she featured heavily in recent National League fixtures, but will now miss the European Championships play-off against Georgia in October. Ziu will undergo surgery and will then begin her rehabilitation programme at Chadwell Heath, but the Dubliner will miss the majority of the new WSL season.The FAI reacted: "Sending our love to Jess Ziu after she suffered an ACL injury.
