In his resignation letter, Mudau wrote that he has no alternative due to his convictions as someone who believes urgent action is needed following the report, which found serious violations by senior members of Unisa's management. Read more:
City Press learnt that Mudau, who was the chairperson of the audit enterprise and risk committee, and another council member, Belinda Mapongwana, chairperson of the social and ethics committee, resigned on Saturday.
Mosia was tasked by Nzimande last year to assess various allegations, including maladministration, tender irregularities and governance failures at the institution. In his resignation letter, Mudau stated he had reflected on the resolution taken on Thursday to request the deadline extension of 21 or 30 days to respond to Nzimande’s letter in Mosia’s report.I find no alternative but to resign as an independent member of the council as it will be impossible to serve against my strong conviction as someone who believes appropriate and urgent action is required on the independent assessor’s report to restore public confidence.
