Feeding your family with the leftover cash in your wallet might be a thing of the past.

abc.net.au/news/explainer-cost-of-living-food-coles-recipes/102819756As the cost of living continues to bite, some old Coles advertisements claiming you can feed your family for $10 have resurfaced on social media, showing just how much food prices have gone upA 2017 campaign featuring Australian chef Curtis Stone shows him picking up some groceries from Coles and making a meal for a family of four for under $10.

Social media users have remixed the original ad with examples of what $10 will now buy, or produced detailed breakdowns of how much Stone's original recipes now cost.According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the current Consumer Price Index for food — measuring the pace of inflation — is 7.5 per cent.

Comparing prices from six years ago with what it would cost to make those recipes now paints a grim picture of how much inflation has hit the average hip pocket. Here's the breakdown of how those advertisements have aged, when prices at all supermarkets have risen. The Feed Your Family campaign was released by Coles in 2010 and again in 2017, using home-brand products to make cheap meals to feed four people. In 2017, Stone's cottage pie recipe with ingredients such as 550 grams of beef mince and crème royale potatoes came to about $9.70.

Six years later, the price of beef mince has risen from $4.35 to $6.50, which is a 49 per cent increase.
