The funeral insurance industry has gone through a lot of reform but questions remain as to whether it's the best way to go. 9News

At Real Insurance we have procedures in place which ensures that key terms of a policy are explained to customers prior to the customer making a decision about whether to acquire an insurance policy. This includes information on how premiums are expected to change over the life of the policy.

We have also communicated in writing with Sandra, prior to each anniversary of the taking out of her policy, what the upcoming changes to her premium will be. To date, there has been 9 separate letters, each showing a change to her premiums. We strongly refute that Sandra has been duped by Real Insurance in any way and to date she has enjoyed uninterrupted cover for nearly 10 years. Her policy benefit currently stands at over $15,000 and she has paid just over $5,000 in premiums. That's on average $500 per year for what is now $15,000 of cover.
