Announced on May 18, the social app is introducing its first-ever creator crediting tools, which will ensure users within the global TikTok community get the proper recognition when starting trends.
TikTok’s creator crediting tools will allow users to easily tag and credit creators that inspire them through a new button under the video category. The new initiative aims to make sure anything from dance challenges to viral soundbites gets “equitable attribution.” The update could especially help the BIPOC creator community, whoThe new feature will allow users to refer to a video in their description, giving direct credit to the content that inspired them.
The creator crediting tools will roll out over the next few weeks to app users. Aside from the new button, Chikumbu also announced that TikTok will be “adding more user prompts to credit throughout the posting process along with an educational pop-up that encourages and explains the importance of crediting.”
