DESPITE winning the team silver and bronze in the individual competitions, much was expected from national No. 2 men’s doubles pair Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi.
When Malaysia were trailing 1-2 against Indonesia in the team final, hopes were high on the world No. 19 to level the contest but they lost in straight games to world No. 27 Wahyu Nayaka Arya Pangkaryanira-Ade Yusuf Santoso, paving the way for Indonesia to be crowned the winners.
The 2017 KL Games silver medallists lost to No. 47 Bodin Issara-Maneepong Jongjit, otherwise they could have made it an all-Malaysian final with compatriots Aaron-Wooi Yik. The same may happen to top women’s doubles pair Chow Mei Kuan-Lee Meng Yean, who failed to fulfil their potential as the second highest seeded pair in the tournament.
