Nearly all 20,000 residents of Yellowknife, the capital city of the Northwest Territories, have evacuated, while thousands more in neighboring British Columbia have fled, too.

It's not just people who are being displaced by the flames — wildlife is also being forced to relocate. South of Yellowknife, closer to the border with the United States, a surreal wall of flames hugs the picturesque Okanagan Lake in West Kelowna, British Columbia. At night, the hillsides are alight with the blaze, a stark backdrop to the city of a more than 30,000, as firefighters from all across the province battle to hold the fire at bay.
Speaking at a press conference Friday morning, Brolund looked weary, saying that several structures had been lost.
