Yoendrys Gómez was promoted from Double-A Somerset on Friday morning, adding length to the Yankees pitching staff with nine games remaining.
. Some of his belongings had yet to be unpacked and the locker still didn’t have a nameplate, a testament to the quick turnaround in getting the right-hander to the Bronx.
“He’s somebody that we think highly of,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said. “I think he has a chance to be a really good starter, I really do. He’s young and even in his experience — just because of some of the injuries that he’s had to deal with in his young career — I do feel like this is a talented guy with a pretty high ceiling.”
“The beginning was tough,” Gómez said. “I started the season in the IL. It was a battle, ups and downs, but we felt like I needed to get to a certain amount of innings and that was the goal.”
