After limiting its Leica integration to just the most premium (pricey) devices, Xiaomi is now bringing it to a slightly lower tier model smartphone.
The Xiaomi 13T Pro and 13T, launched today for the European and Asian markets, is a base level flagship phone that brings a fast 144Hz display and two star cameras using Leica optics and color tuning, including a good telemacro lens that can shoot 50mm telephoto shots and also relatively close up macro shots. There’s also a top-of-the-line Mediatek Dimensity chip and a classy vegan leather finish that gives the phone a performance and look that punch above its price range.
Let’s start with the optics: the 13T Pro is headlined by a 50-megapixel main camera with a f/1.9 aperture and decently-sized 1/1.3-inch image sensor, along with another 50-megapixel 2X telephoto lens that is the aforementioned telemacro sensor. This camera shoots at 50mm focal length but can also get up close to a subject without losing focus.A macro shot captured by the phone's macro lens.Considering the above photos were captured at night, the details and colors are accurate and on point.
What that means, are photos that have strong contrast, and vivid sharpness especially in the center. Below are samples captured by the 13T Pro.And the Xiaomi 13T Pro’s main camera holds up very well against the iPhone 15 Pro Max, although the entirely different philosophies in color tuning means different eyes will have differing opinions on which shot is “better.”That macro lens, however, can truly capture some shots that few phones are capable of, including these very close up shots.
Elsewhere, the phone packs the aforementioned beautiful screen with vibrant colors and super smooth 144Hz refresh rate. Most people will also like the flat panel and sides, which make the phone easier to grip. I, on the other hand, prefer curvier screens. At 209g, the phone is light and easy to hold. The Mediatek Dimensity 9200+ chip is a capable performer, though it is slightly behind the best Qualcomm chips right now, mostly in CPU. On the GPU side, it’s neck-and-neck.
