The largest nurses union in New York wants hospitals to provide a full accounting of how many staff workers were infected with the coronavirus
By Shalini Ramachandran Close Shalini Ramachandran Updated July 7, 2020 6:38 pm ET New York’s largest nurses union filed charges of unfair labor practices against several hospitals in the state, seeking the number of nurses who had been infected with the coronavirus.
The union says the information is critical to understand what happened during the first surge of the virus to prepare for a possible second wave. NYSNA has been a vocal critic of New York’s hospitals and government policies during the pandemic, filing lawsuits against the state’s department of health and two hospital systems for a lack of proper protective equipment, among other things.
Some hospitals, including Montefiore, have recently begun to release some data on infections to the union.
