The last known spotless giraffe was born at the Ueno Zoo in Tokyo, in 1972

The baby reticulated giraffe, born last month at the Brights Zoo in Tennesee, US is currently the only known spotless giraffe in the world.

"The international coverage of our patternless baby giraffe has created a much-needed spotlight on giraffe conservation," Brights Zoo founder Tony Bright said in a press release. "Wild populations are silently slipping into extinction, with 40 per cent of the wild giraffe population lost in just the last three decades."

Reticulated giraffes are considered an endangered species, with roughly 8,500 left in their natural habitat in southern Somalia and Southeastern Ethiopia. Females can weigh up to 1,360kg, and grow to be between 4.8 to 5.5 metres tall. The unnamed female giraffe is already 1.8 metres tall at one month old.Trio of curious lion cubs given names
