A former World Cup and English Premier League star has been found by rescuers following twin earthquakes that flattened a number of cities in Turkey and rocked a second country.
An estimated 3,500 people are dead across the two nations, with about 2,316 people deceased in Turkey and 1,297 in neighbouring Syria, which was also severely hit.
A second powerful 7.5 tremor shook Turkey hours later in the day as rescuers and devastated family members were searching under rubble for survivors. Thousands of rescuers and other emergency personnel have descended on at least ten cities in Turkey that have been reportedly close to flattened. The toddler, who appeared to be injured, can be seen in video footage crawling through broken pieces of concrete into the arms of a rescuer.
