ABC7 News I-Team uncovered a growing need for Cal/OSHA elevator inspectors that has led to overdue inspections in San Francisco, sometimes by years.
, an annual state safety inspection allows a safety engineer to review the activity and maintenance of the elevator and to see that safety orders and any required tests are complied with."The state looks at the various safety devices to make sure that they're operational," said Fagan.
The spokesperson also said in an email to ABC7 News that the division does not keep data regarding the time inspections are requested versus the time inspections occur. By email, the Department of Industrial Relations' spokesperson said new inspections and alteration inspections take priority over annual inspections of permitted elevators and inspections of new elevators take more time to conduct.
After Zuniga got stuck, Hotel Zeppelin applied for an inspection again. The hotel's general manager says this time an inspector came out.
