A woman experiencing a medical emergency needed to be medevaced off of a cruise ship offshore of Galveston.A woman had to be transported by helicopter to a hospital from a cruise ship offshore of Galveston on Monday evening for a medical emergency, Coast Guard officials said.
The woman, 51, was experiencing lower abdominal pain, possibly appendicitis, the Coast Guard reported. After consultation with a surgeon, it was decided she was to be medevaced to a hospital. The request for medevac came in around 5 p.m. when the Royal Caribbean cruise ship Adventure of the Seas was about 25 miles offshore of Galveston.A helicopter landed on the cruise ship, picked the woman up and took her to the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.
