Woman injured in Little Italy shooting [Breaking]

A woman was shot and injured early Saturday morning during a verbal altercation in Little Italy, San Diego police said.

The incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. A group of people staying at a motel decided to get gas at a nearby Valero station located at Pacific Highway and Laurel Street, police said. While driving back to the motel, they passed a second group of young men and women who were on the sidewalk. According to police, the group in the vehicle thought someone on the sidewalk had hurled an object at their car. The driver turned the vehicle around and came back and a verbal altercation ensued.

Police said someone in the group on the sidewalk then fired a shot. It hit a female sitting in the rear of the car in the mid-back area. She was transported to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. The incident remains under investigation.
