The woman who was deliberately hit with a hammer at the Beacon Hill light rail station said she had recently recovered from brain surgery.

Elvia Salas Buenrostro speaks with KOMO News a week after she was injured in what Seattle police called an ‘unprovoked’ attack at the Beacon Hill Link light rail station on September, 28, 2023. at the Beacon Hill Link light rail station last week said she had recently recovered from brain surgery when she was struck in the head during the unprovoked attack.

Elvia Salas Buenrostro said she was preparing to board the light rail train to downtown Seattle on September 28 when she was attacked without warning."It was only him and me," Buenrostro told KOMO News, referring to the man who attacked her. "He hit me very, very bad, and I focused on the pain and how he hit me on my head.", the man didn't seem to mind the attention he brought upon himself as he waved around a large hammer.

" pushed , and he fell to the ground and I screamed even more," Buenrostro recalled."Had he not intervened, I strongly feel that my mom's injuries would've been much worse, if not life-threatening," said Buenrostro's daughter Xochitl Rojas. “The thought of someone hurting your mother, it's extremely painful."

Buenrostro is also expected to fully recover from the unprovoked attack. Only three weeks ago, she finished rehabilitation following surgery for a brain tumor. She suffered injuries to the side of her head during the attack opposite of where she had surgery. Seattle police described the suspected attacker as an approximately 6-foot-tall Black man in his 30s. He was last seen wearing a black hat with ear flaps, a dark blue jacket, a black tunic/dress and sandals.Anyone with information regarding the man's identity or whereabouts is asked to contact the SPD's Violent Crimes Tip Line at 206-233-5000.
