Racheal Kaut, a finance operations assistant at AirAsia, flies between her home in Penang and her workplace in Sepang daily.

Living in a bustling metropolis like Kuala Lumpur often comes with the burden of enduring heavy traffic. This daily struggle is a familiar experience for many commuters, leaving them exhausted and frustrated. However, one woman, Racheal Kaut, has found a unique and unconventional solution to navigate this daily grind. Racheal, a finance operations assistant at AirAsia, chooses to fly between her home in Penang and her workplace in Sepang every day.

Her unusual commute begins at 4 am, with Racheal preparing for her day before driving to Penang International Airport by 5 am. Arriving around 5:55 am, she parks her car, changes into her work attire, and checks in for her flight. The 30 to 40-minute flight lands at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) around 6:30 am, allowing Racheal to reach her office at AirAsia's headquarters (HQ) by 7:45 am, even though her workday officially starts at 9 am. Racheal's decision to fly stems from her desire to save money and spend more time with her two children, aged 11 and 12. Previously, she rented an apartment in Kuala Lumpur, incurring monthly expenses of RM1,400 to RM1,500. However, her current daily commute costs her only RM50 per flight thanks to employee discounts. This translates to a monthly saving of RM1,100 compared to her previous rental costs. Additionally, her lunch expenses have dropped by 50% from RM600 to RM300 per month. In essence, Racheal saves RM700 every month by flying to work, a significant amount considering her daily 600-kilometer journey. This arrangement also allows her to return home every evening and be present for her children, assisting them with homework and sharing precious moments during the day
