KOTA KINABALU: A 24-year-old woman was fined a total of RM8,000, in default, 15 months imprisonment for two separate charges of making offensive remarks in relation to Pintasan assemblyman Datuk Fairuz Renddan and insulting the latter on social media platforms.

In the first charge, Sessions Court judge Amir Shah Amir Hassan sentenced her to a fine of RM5,000, in default, a five-month jail term for her offensive comment on Facebook on April 30 this year. She pleaded guilty to the offence under Section 233 of the Multimedia and Communication Act 1998, which is punishable under Section 233 of the same Act.
