The National Artificial Intelligence Office (NAIO) will be institutionalised on July 28 as the agency tasked with developing policies surrounding the governance of artificial intelligence in Malaysia.
MELAKA: A 25-year-old factory worker has been fined RM2,800 by the Magistrate's Court in Ayer Keroh here for possessing and disseminating intimate videos of her ex-husband and another woman.
Magistrate Nur Afiqah Radhiah Zainurin meted out the sentence after the accused, Puteri Norfatimah Ishak, pleaded guilty to the charge on Monday . According to the charge, the accused was found in possession of obscene videos and images on a mobile phone. The charge was framed under Section 292 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to three years' imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction.
In the case, the complainant, the woman seen in the video, received the clip from her sister, sent from a telephone number belonging to the accused. The video showed the complainant having sex with the accused's ex-husband and was recorded without her knowledge or consent. Investigations revealed that the video was circulated to several of the complainant's family members.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Siti Nur Alia Safri urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence, arguing that the offence involved obscene material depicting identifiable individuals and not only breached the law but also violated the dignity and privacy of those involved. The accused, who was unrepresented, appealed for leniency, telling the court that she had been emotionally distressed at the time as she had recently suffered a miscarriage.for breaking news alerts and key updates!
