Joan Burke, 61, was arrested on a first-degree murder charge after Melvin Weller was found on the floor in a pool of blood that covered more than half his kitchen.
Officers found blood smears on the counters, cabinets and walls inside the kitchen as well as a couple of knives and a meat cleaver in the sink.
It was later found that Burke had cuts on the palms of both hands, which investigators said is common for offenders to sustain during a stabbing due to losing their grip on the handle. A tied-up plastic bag was found in the kitchen, which contained a cell phone as well as a blood-covered nightgown. Investigators said they believed the cell phone belonged to Weller.
