A 29-year-old woman in Kangar, Malaysia, has been arrested for allegedly abandoning her newborn baby girl in a plastic bag lined with a sarong. The baby was found unharmed in front of a house, prompting a police investigation that led to the suspect's arrest.

Police in Kangar have arrested a 29-year-old woman suspected of abandoning her newborn baby girl. The infant was found in a plastic bag lined with a sarong in front of a house on Jalan Kampung Rama, Kuala Sanglang, Simpang Empat, on January 19. The suspect, who works as a restaurant assistant, was detained at 2.55am on Sunday, February 3, at a house in Simpang Empat following information gathered by police.

She lives with her four young children, while her husband is currently undergoing treatment at a drug rehabilitation center. According to initial findings, the woman is believed to have given birth to the baby girl alone in a toilet at a house on Jalan Tok Pulau, Kampung Permatang Kersek, Simpang Empat, on January 18, around 6.30pm. She is suspected of then traveling to a restaurant in Kampung Rama in a friend's Myvi car to abandon the baby at around 4.30am on January 19. The baby was found in good health. The suspect has been remanded for four days starting Monday, February 4, and the case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code for concealing a birth with the intention of abandoning the baby.
