A family are in mourning after a woman and three boys were killed on Tuesday night when the car they were travelling in crashed into a power pole in the NSW Riverina region.

Emergency services responded to the scene about 11.15pm at the intersection of Research Road and Toorak Road in the rural village of Yanco.

New South Wales Police believe the vehicle crashed into a pole before it went down an embankment into a water channel and landed on its roof. Officers from the Murrumbidgee Police District have established a crime scene that will be examined by specialist police.
