Wolverine is one of Marvel's most famous mutants – but at one point, the company tried to make Logan, and other similar-powered mutants, an entirely different genetic line, know as the Lupines. More recently, mutantkind's Mars era has led to a theory that ties the Lupines back to the red planet, completely redefining Wolverine's powers in the process: his father, Thomas Logan, was not from Earth.

Wolverine's Lineage Could Go Back To Ancient Arakko The Lupines of Earth include Logan and his son Dakken, as well as Sabertooth and Wild Child. The Lupines were themselves depicted as an ancient branch of nonhumans – descendent from, and led by, the sinister Romulus, who was responsible for murdering Wolverine's wife and kidnapping Dakken to raise as a violent assassin.
Thomas Logan's Lupine Heritage Can Finally Be Resolved Marvel could potentially introduce the idea that Romulus can trace his own lineage back to Arakko – and further, clarify once and for all that Thomas Logan was a powerful member of this branch of mutants.
It would also be a way of clarifying some of the outstanding loose ends in Wolverine's backstory. For a character who spent the first several decades of his history alienated from his own backstory, driven by the question of what his lost memories contained, the answers provided in recent years have contained their share of uncertainties, contradictions, and retcons.
