Houston native and WNBA All-Star Brittney Griner could face 10 years in Russian prison after being arrested in an airport with vape cartridges allegedly filled with cannabis oil — a drug charge that comes amid global tension that some fear could put the athlete at risk of becoming a “political pawn.”
The Russian agency didn’t specify the date of the arrest. It also didn’t detail the amount or type of cannabinoids found. Jackson remains in Houston following her retirement after 38 years of coaching at Nimitz. She said she sent a supportive Facebook message to Griner’s family.
