JOHANNESBURG - A witness of the Braamfontein shooting that claimed three lives has described how bystanders ran for cover amid a hail of bullets in the busy student district.

A car guard who chooses to remain anonymous told Eyewitness News how panicked residents scrambled for safety in the busy area when two men opened fire in broad daylight.The man said he witnessed two gunmen step out of an SUV and fire shots at two people who were sitting in a parked car. "It was as if they were students. Southpoint is a student place. I never thought they were bad guys."

The vibrant student hub quickly turned into a crime scene with lengthy police tape cordoning off the area where the dead bodies lay. Police said the motive for the shooting is currently unknown and are pleading with the public to share any information about the shooting.
