A wet dress rehearsal simulating a launch sequence without igniting the rocket engines, could signal a launch as early as next month.
to media questions on whether the company could launch Starship by the end of February or early March: “That’s a good guess.”But the next step is likely to include test firing of the booster’s rocket engines, the company has said. After Tuesday’s dress rehearsal, SpaceX said the rocket would be “destacked” to test fire its 33 engines on the pad. That would be the biggest static fire test it’s done.
The private space company has been working for years to develop the reusable Starship rocket system to carry cargo and, eventually, astronauts on missions to the moon and beyond. The company also expects the rocket system to speed deployment of its Starlink network of communication satellites. Despite Musk’s and NASA’s optimism, however, SpaceX is still waiting on the Federal Aviation Administration to issue a license for an orbital mission from Starbase.
