Operations to be focused on Kedah's river basins which supply 80% of Penang's water. FMTNews PBA SungaiMuda

GEORGE TOWN: The Penang government has approved RM300,000 for cloud seeding operations to induce rainfall mostly in Kedah, as dams continue drying across both states.

Cloud seeding will also be ordered over Kedah’s Beris and Muda dams which supply water to Sungai Muda. Sungai Muda supplies water to 80% of the population on Penang island and in Seberang Perai. “The state government approved PBA’s cloud seeding plan as there were rain clouds present during the inter-monsoon season. Therefore, the probability of success in inducing rainfall is higher,” he said in a statement.
