With at least 35 houses needing a complete rebuild, Fitzroy Crossing locals say 'immediate' $200 relief payments are proving difficult to access.

As of Monday afternoon, 385 damage assessments had been completed across the town and surrounding communities. While the majority of properties impacted are homes, businesses like the Crossing Inn also suffered catastrophic damage.Federal emergency payments of $200 per person were meant to be available immediately from last week, but flood-hit Fitzroy Crossing residents have reported significant difficulties.
"There's 700 people or more out in communities at the moment who don't have access to the internet, mobile phones and the [Fitzroy River] bridge is down so, their access is severely limited."
