Ariana DeBose leads the cast of Disney's upcoming animated movie Wish. The film, which features original songs by Julia Michaels, focuses on the backstory of the Wishing Star, a longtime fixture in Disney lore. DeBose voices Asha, a 17-year-old who unlocks the power of the Star. Wish is directed by Chris Buck and Fawn Veerasunthorn, both of whom have worked on prior Disney movies.
Everything We Know About Wish Wish's release later this year will follow the disappointing performance of Strange World last fall, which earned mostly positive reviews but bombed at the box office. The pressure is on, then, for Wish to perform. Given the film's connection to the Wishing Star, a well-known item in Disney's history, and its impressive voice cast, the film is already poised to be more of a hit.
Wish is written by Buck and Jennifer Lee, the former of whom directed Frozen, Frozen II, and Surf's Up. Lee, on the other hand, has served as a writer on both Frozen movies, Wreck-It Ralph, and Zootopia, among other projects. Wish is produced by Lee, Peter Del Vecho, James E. Hasman, and Juan Pablo Reyes. Wish will feature original songs by Julia Michaels and Benjamin Rise with a score from composer Dave Metzger.
