A winter storm is expected to batter the greater New York City area Monday evening into Tuesday. It comes as California is just starting to see relief after a constant barrage of storms.
The storms predicted for New York are expected to bring as much as 3-5 inches of snow, sleet, and rain during the two-day period. Parts of upper New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Massachusetts could see as much as 8 inches of snow.The National Weather Service is forecasting that the"precipitation begins as snow during this evening" and eventually becomes more of a mix of snow and rain as the"rain/snow line slowly pushes northward during Tuesday.
As the Big Apple braces for snow, residents of the Golden State are expected to get relief from a string of storms that brought heavy rain and snow throughout the state. From Tuesday through Sunday, parts of the San Gabriel mountains saw nearly 6 feet of snow, and inland parts of Southern California saw nearly 5 inches of rain, according to the NWS.
The storms prompted the NWS to issue a blizzard warning for Los Angeles County for the first time since 1989, and power outages affected more than 100,000 people. The heavy precipitation also caused some roadways to be closed.Heavy rain and snow storms continued into Monday, as thunderstorms and inclement conditions continued in Northern California through the evening.
