The scheme went on from April 2013 to March 2019.

CLEVELAND, Ohio – A federal grand jury has indicted a couple and accused them of conspiring to set fire to rental properties to collect insurance money.

The scheme was set up to defraud insurance companies by setting houses on fire and falsely collecting proceeds, federal prosecutors said. After the houses were set on fire, the nominal owners would submit fraudulent loss claims to the house’s insurer for fire damage. After the funds were processed, the insurance company would distribute the funds to White and Ogletree, who would put the money to different accounts.

In October 2017, a check was mailed to a co-conspirator of White for $134,828 for a house that burned down on Coit Road in Cleveland, according to the indictment. Another check was mailed out later that month for $6,833.
